About The Artist
Julien Hatswell, Born 17/11/68
Psychologists like to trace obsessions back
to childhood experiences. On the whole mine was blissful,
spending joyous time making 'Thunderbirds' inspired playscapes
or exploring local rivers with my like-minded friend James.
I've known him for nearly 35 years, since nursery school when
I witnessed him throwing up a plasticine cake he'd just crafted
and then eaten. Apart from School, mostly pleasant memories
abound until early adolescence, when various family dramas
gave me the compulsion to draw ugly things, and immerse my
imagination into areas that reflected an extremely negative
view of myself. These cathartic exercises evolved into paintings
and sculpture, gradually honing my skills to produce quite
accomplished ugly things. NEXT
